Monaco’s residents are hoping for cheaper phone calls and a more competitive service and anxiously await details of the ”highest quality telecommunications services” promised to them by Cable & Wireless. They now have full management control of Monaco Telecom since their 162m euro purchase of Vivendi’s 55% share in what is perhaps the smallest fixed line telephone monopoly in the world, but which operates its own ‘gateway’ out of Monaco and reported a turnover of 172m euros and net profit of 18m in 2003. …
