Residents in the centre of Monaco are revelling in an unexpectedly peaceful beginning to the 21st century. An unbelievable number of trains clatter through the centre of town during the night. The end of the century brought a real Christmas of joy and peace and ‘Silent Nights’ as the trains were banished underground, leaving meters of track quietly awaiting the bulldozers. Guests at the Terminus Hotel pay the same price and can now enjoy a night’s sleep, too.
