The pre-Christmas snow in the Alpes Maritimes gave a welcome boost to the ski resorts, but shops and restaurants in Monaco were half empty and the resident sparrow who winters in the Café de Paris was quite lonely until the ever faithful Italian revellers came to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Principality. While northern Europe shivered, the mild weather brought crowds of revellers into the sparkling, laser lit Place du Casino to admire the Lamborghinis and welcome the new year. …
