While members of the club Monaco-USA celebrated America’s Independence Day in fine style, hundreds of permanent residents staged a public protest of the pending removal of rent controls, an unprecedented strike by postal workers - unhappy with Monaco’s majority share in privatised French postal service - brought their usually efficient service to a halt and the Gargantuan Grimaldi Forum was seriously behind schedule. It seemed to be Monaco’s summer of discontent.
